Food Allergies

Food hypersensitivity is a response from the reaction of the resistant framework. It is a response to battle the unsafe fixing in the food. Food hypersensitivities fluctuate between babies, kids, and grown-ups. The sign and side effects for food sensitivities can show responses that are minor to serious. Treatment for food hypersensitivities rely upon the signs and side effects. In babies and little youngsters, they have responses to milk or soy milk on the off chance that they are susceptible to it. Hypersensitivities to milk or soy equation (a milk substitute produced using soybeans) once in a while happen in babies and small kids. These early sensitivities now and then don't include the typical hives or asthma yet rather can cause side effects looking like juvenile colic, and maybe blood in the stool, or poor growth† (Stoppler). The response of food sensitivity in babies is checked to check whether there are any adjustments in the infants’ diet. The side effects for k ids and grown-ups are fairly comparable yet with an alternate pattern.According to Stoppler: In grown-ups, the most widely recognized nourishments that cause hypersensitive responses are shellfish, for example, shrimp, crawfish, lobster, and crab; nuts from trees, for example, pecans; fish; eggs; and peanuts, a vegetable that is one of the main nourishments that cause genuine anaphylactic responses. In youngsters, the most widely recognized nourishments that cause unfavorably susceptible responses are eggs, milk, peanuts, and organic products, especially tomatoes and strawberries. Kids some of the time grow out of their sensitivities, yet grown-ups for the most part don't lose theirs. Food hypersensitivities happen when the body takes in food with a fixing that the body can't deal with. It happens when the body botches a fixing in food †normally a protein †as destructive and makes a barrier framework (antibodies) to battle it. Food hypersensitivity indications create when the antibodies are fighting the â€Å"invading† food† (WebMD, Feb 2009). A few people structure hypersensitivities to peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, milk, eggs, soy items, wheat and different items. Food hypersensitivities can be botch for food bigotry. Food narrow mindedness to some degree looks like to food hypersensitivities. â€Å"Food narrow mindedness, in any case, is unmistakably progressively common, happens in an assortment of sicknesses, and is activated by a few unique systems that are particular from the immunological response answerable for food allergy† (Stoppler). Hyp ersensitivity is a dangerous response for food sensitivities. â€Å"Anaphylaxis is a serious, entire body unfavorably susceptible response to a compound that has become an allergen† (MedlinePlus). The signs and indications for food hypersensitivities differ from minor to extreme responses. It additionally relies upon how much food was devoured for it to trigger the response and time. â€Å"All of the indications of food sensitivity happen inside couple of moments to an hour of eating† (Stoppler). A few indications are rashes, hives, sickness, stomach torment, looseness of the bowels, irritated skin, brevity of breath, chest torment, expanding of the aviation routes to the lungs, and hypersensitivity. The unfavorably susceptible response happens in different manners. â€Å"A food hypersensitivity can at first be experienced as a tingling in the mouth and trouble gulping and breathing. Then, during processing of the food in the stomach and digestive organs, side effects, for example, sickness, regurgitating, loose bowels, and stomach agony can begin. By chance, the gastrointestinal side effects of food sensitivity are those that are regularly mistaken for the side effects of various sorts of food intolerance† (Stoppler). The side effects for food bigotry are sickness, stomach torment, gas, squeezes, or swelling, regurgitating, acid reflux, looseness of the bowels, cerebral pains, crabbiness, or potentially apprehension. One of the extreme responses is hypersensitivity. It is a dangerous sort of unfavorably susceptible response. Anaphylactic responses are extreme in any event, when they start off with gentle manifestations, for example, a shivering in the mouth and throat or distress in the mid-region. They can be lethal if not rewarded quickly† (Stoppler). The side effects happen from in no time or minutes. The manifestations are stomach torment or squeezing, anomalous (piercing) breathing sounds, nervousness, disarray, hack, the runs, t rouble breathing, trouble gulping, swooning, wooziness, unsteadiness, hives, irritation, nasal clog, queasiness, regurgitating, palpitations, skin redness, slurred discourse, and wheezing. The finishes paperwork for hypersensitivity are irregular heart cadence (arrhythmia), liquid in the lungs (pneumonic edema), hives, low circulatory strain, mental disarray, quick heartbeat, skin that is blue from absence of oxygen or pale from stun, expanding (angioedema) in the throat that might be sufficiently serious to obstruct the aviation route, growing of the eyes as well as eyes, shortcoming, and wheezing. Treatment for food hypersensitivities depend on the signs and indications if the response is gentle or extreme. One needs to begin with maintaining a strategic distance from the food that triggers the allergen. If the food is dodged, the unfavorably susceptible response is stayed away from. â€Å"Avoiding the culpable allergen in the eating routine is the essential treatment of food hyper sensitivity. When a food to which the patient is delicate has been recognized, the food must be expelled from the diet† (Stoppler). For the individuals who have mellow sensitivities, nonprescription antihistamine might control the indications. On the off chance that nonprescription antihistamine doesn’t work, at that point an endorsed antihistamine may should be taken. For extreme responses, one could be treated in the crisis room or be treated by an epinephrine shot.According to WebMD, â€Å"Food Allergies-Treatment Overview†: If you have a serious hypersensitive response, your underlying treatment might be done in a crisis room or by crisis work force. You will be offered a chance of epinephrine to stop the further arrival of histamine and to loosen up the muscles that help you relax. You will at that point be recommended a hypersensitivity unit that contains a syringe of epinephrine and antihistamine tablets. Epinephrine is regulated through an auto-injector. It is otherwise called EpiPen. It is additionally a treatment to anaphylaxis.According to Stoppler: These people likewise consistently should convey a syringe of adrenaline (epinephrine [EpiPen]), got by medicine from their PCPs, and be set up to self-regulate it on the off chance that they think they are building up an unfavorably susceptible response. They at that point ought to promptly look for clinical assistance by either calling the salvage crew or having themselves moved to a crisis room. Food sensitivities can be appraised gentle to extreme in response. The responses can be comparative in youngsters and grown-ups however it relies upon the time and what food was eaten and its amount was eaten. Signs and side effects shift from each person.Food sensitivities can be confused now and again with food narrow mindedness, food contamination, and harmful responses. The treatment too relies upon the seriousness of the response on the off chance that it is a mellow response to an ext reme reaction.Works Cited â€Å"Anaphylaxis. † MedlinePlus. 02 May 2010. 5 Major Differences Between Public and Private Schools

5 Major Differences Between Public and Private Schools Training is a significant piece of bringing up youngsters and setting them up to live effective lives. For some, families, finding the correct school condition isnt as simple as simply selecting at the neighborhood government funded school. With the data we have today about learning contrasts and 21st-century aptitudes, not all schools can enough address the issues of each understudy. So how would you decide whether the localâ school is meeting your childs needs or if its opportunity to switch schools? A typical correlation is that of state funded schools and tuition based schools. The same number of government funded schools face spending slices that lead to bigger class sizes and less assets, numerous tuition based schools keep on thriving. In any case, a tuition based school can be costly. Is it worth the speculation? Here are some significant inquiries that you ought to present yourself about the contrasts among open and private schools.â How Large Are the Class Sizes? Class size is one of the significant contrasts between state funded schools and non-public schools. The class size in urban government funded schools can be as extensive as 25-30 understudies (or more),â while most non-public schools keep their class measures more like a normal of 10-15â students, contingent upon the school. Note that a few schools will pitch an understudy to instructor proportion, notwithstanding, or now and then instead of, a normal study hall size. The understudy to instructor proportion isn't equivalent to the normal study hall size, as the proportion frequently incorporates low maintenance educators who may fill in as guides or substitutes, and now and again the proportion even incorporates non-showing personnel (managers, mentors, dormitory guardians) who are a piece of understudies every day lives outside the homeroom. There areâ electives at some non-public schools with considerably less understudies, implying that your youngster will get customized consideration and the capacity to add to study hall conversations that cultivate learning. A few schools have a Harkness Table, an oval-molded table that started at Philips Exeter Academy to permit all the individuals at the table to take a gander at one another during conversations. Littler class measures likewise imply that educators can give understudies longer and increasingly muddled assignments, as the instructors don’t have the same number of papers to review. For instance, understudies at numerous scholastically testing school preliminary tuition based schools compose 10-15 page papers as youngsters and seniors. How Are the Teachers Prepared? While state funded teachers consistently should be guaranteed, non-public school teachersâ often don’t need formal affirmation. In any case, many are specialists in their fields or have master’s or even doctoral degrees. While it is exceptionally hard to evacuate state funded teachers, tuition based school educators for the most part have gets that are sustainable every year. How Well Does the School Prepare Students for College or Post-High School Life? While numerous government funded schools work superbly of planning understudies for school, many don't. For instance, an ongoing studyâ found that even An appraised government funded schools in New York City have remediation paces of over half for their alumni who go to the City University of New York. Most school preliminary non-public schools make an intensive showing of setting up their alumni to prevail in school; be that as it may, this also differs dependent on the individual school. What Attitude Do the Students Have When It Comes to School? To a limited extent, since non-public schools frequently have specific confirmations forms, they can pick understudies who are profoundly energetic. Numerous tuition based school understudies need to learn, and your youngster will be encircled by understudies who view scholarly accomplishment as attractive. For understudies who arent tested enough at their present schools, finding a school loaded with profoundly energetic understudies can be a significant improvement they would say. Does the School Offer Other Services and Activities That Are Meaningful for My Child? Since tuition based schools don’t need to observe state laws about what to instruct, they can offer one of a kind and specializedâ programs. For instance, parochial schools can offer religion classes,â while custom curriculum schools can offer healing and directing projects to support their understudies. Schools regularly offer profoundly propelled programs in technical studies or expressions. For instance, Milken Community Schools in Los Angeles put more than $6 million in creating one of the top tuition based school Advanced Science Programs. The vivid condition likewise implies that numerous non-public school understudies essentially go to class for additional hours in the day than do government funded school understudies since tuition based schools offer after-school programs and a more drawn out timetable. This implies less time to get in a difficult situation and more opportunity to engage in exercises.

PEST and PESTEL Analysis

Vermin and PESTEL Analysis The PEST examination is an apparatus for surveying the wide condition where a firm works and is attempting to contend, and the model is most likely most popular for giving a virtual letters in order soup of abbreviations. Bug is an abbreviation for Political/Economic/Sociocultural/Technological; different variations incorporate PESTEL (Political/Economic/Sociocultural/Technological/Environmental/Legal), STEP, SLEPT, PELTS, LE-PEST-C (which adds Competitive Forces to the PESTEL model), and SPECTACLES (Social/Political/Economic/Cultural/Technological/Esthetic/Customer/Legal/Environmental/Sectoral). Aside from various degrees of broadness and the proposal that a few variables can be organized in various manners relying upon how the abbreviation is masterminded, there is no central contrast among these varieties. Characterizing PEST Factors Political: The world of politics comprises of the laws, guidelines, and approaches that at present †or within a reasonable time-frame †influence the company’s tasks and goals. Monetary: Economic variables are those of the more extensive macroeconomic condition (or, in other words, for all intents and purposes every last bit of it, somehow) that influence the organization. Expansion and loan fees, value and item advertise patterns, and different pointers, for example, joblessness or work creation rates all affect the organization by figuring out what phase of the business cycle the company’s specific market is right now in; clearly, if the organization is seeking after a methodology that isn't upheld by its financial condition, that would be an issue. Sociocultural: Cultural attributes and customs, the social structure of a populace in the company’s showcase, moral and good standards, and different factors, for example, age, instruction level, and language are immeasurably significant components for the organization to comprehend and react to suitably with its items or administrations. Innovative: Technological impacts exist on a wide range of levels. The most clear one is the innovation of items, for instance, the quick expansion of progressively capableâ smartphones and tablets consistently taking piece of the pie from ‘traditional’ work stations and workstations. Procedure innovation for organizations advances nearly as rapidlyâ because it is upheld by the creating innovation basic purchaser items. Administrative innovation, the thoughts, techniques, and procedures used to oversee organizations seriously, likewise advances. The last is the destined to be ignored in an ecological investigation; most firms are genuinely skillful in distinguishing the attributes of their condition, however frequently don't perceive that the methods and techniques which they should use to react successfully to new conditions should be refreshed too. You may likewise be keen on: The most effective method to Write Critical Analysis Basic Success Factors Analysis Five Forces Analysis The most effective method to Understand SWOT Analysis My Assignment Brief Says â€Å"PESTEL† Analysis, so Where’s the EL? Counting the Environmental and Legal segments of the investigation is by all accounts current scholarly style; in true administrative practice, inclinations for more or less factors are pretty much consistently dispersed †some lean toward the more drawn out and more sub-isolated configuration like PESTEL or SPECTACLES, others favor the shorter rendition. The entanglement of extra factors is that they are frequently not unmistakable enough to warrant separate consideration. Ecological worries, for instance, don't exist outside the settings of social and social perspectives towards the earth, political components that influence the administration of nature, and innovative effects on the earth. Legitimate issues, for example, laws directing organization exercises, or laws overseeing the shaping and implementation of agreements, all get from political elements, and somewhat, from sociocultural elements; they can't exist all alone. For the motivations behind producing the ecological review, transforming a PEST into a PESTEL or anotherâ variation isn't at all troublesome. Breaking down the variables, in any case, turns out to be increasingly mind boggling the more letters there are in the abbreviation; cautious consideration must be paid to how the different components are identified with one another. Basic Steps in a PEST Analysis When all is said in done, investigating the elements assembled in a PEST requires five stages: Stage 1. Figure out which patterns are pertinent to the organization. Past methodologies and their results are a decent manual for figuring out which of the variables recognized are probably going to affect the organization later on; some will be somewhat clearly significant or not, yet most will require cautious investigation. When the significant components are recognized, examine their conduct after some time to distinguish general patterns and examples that will be proceeded later on. Stage 2. Recognize the interdependencies in the trends. All of the pertinent factors and patterns are associated in some wayâ and either supplement or struggle with each other. Utilizing the ‘environment’ model from over, a pattern towards stricter natural laws (a Political factor) would most likely be believed to relate with more grounded open mentalities about the earth (a Sociocultural factor) and development in â€Å"green† items (an Economic and additionally Technological factor). Understanding these interdependencies is imperative to forestall the improvement of key goals that have unintended results. Stage 3. Conjecture explicit issues for the organization that the patterns will create. Again, past execution is the best wellspring of proof for how important patterns will affect the organization. Now, you should start to organize the patterns and the issues that are made from them arranged by most noteworthy to least effect on the organization and its methodology. Stage 4. Create ramifications of patterns and natural changes. The patterns and issues ought to be inspected in three settings: the potential effects on the business or area all in all; potential effects on the company’s serious position; and potential effects on the situation of the company’s direct contenders. Stage 5. Lead an affectability analysis. The specific way in which this is done relies upon the conditions and needs of the firm. When in doubt of thumb, if the anticipated conceivable negative consequence of a specific issue is marginally underneath the ‘worst-case scenario’ result for the related goal, the issue ought to be viewed as basic. Focal points Disadvantages of PEST The PEST investigation is a valuable antecedent to inward analysesâ or examinations, for example, SWOT investigation that combineâ internal and outside elements. Like the Critical Success Factors investigation, a huge piece of the advantages from doing a PEST examination originate from the activity itself. Key drivers of progress in the association or its market are distinguished alongside their connections, and this examination system gives a kind of â€Å"common language† for administrative dynamic and cooperation. Then again, PEST has various defects. The four components of the essential PEST model are fairly discretionary; the suspicion that they do altogether influence each business is normally right, yet there is no assurance of this. Also, obviously, adding more factors to transform PEST into a PESTEL or anotherâ variant comes at the expense of included multifaceted nature. The model likewise makes the presumption that authentic conduct and patterns predictâ the future, which may not generally be the situation. Furthermore, figuring out which patterns and factors are applicable to the organization and its market is completely emotional, as is recognizing interdependencies among patterns somewhat. Different information the executives projects can help diminish the uncertaintyâ but add time and cost to the analysis. And at long last, PEST doesn't really propose a strategy; it assists with distinguishing significant factors and patterns, however not what the association ought to do about them.

How To Write A Good History Essay -

Asked if you know how to write a historical essay, you tell yourself itll be easy as long as you have the topic since you just have to use your own words in re-narrating history. No, you thought wrong. Although youll base a lot of your writing on historical text, it doesnt mean that youll simply rewrite it. You will need to write, interpret, define your thesis, support it with necessary evidence, analyse and conclude.A straightforward introductionDo not use dramatic words because theyre inappropriate when used in a historical context. It must contain a clue of what you will prove later on in your thesis statement. Youre learning how to write a historical essay that is based on real life and facts, not a verbose and romanticized interpretation of a simple event.Pay attention:ThesisAsk yourself what it is youre trying to prove. This is your own argument, your opinion on the subject and therefore, you need to explain it and support it with evidence. Its not a repetition of a known fact. For instance, The Russian Communists successfully overthrew the monarchy in 1917 is not a thesis statement, it is a fact. This is a thesis:The birth of communism in Russia in 1917 had been the result of the cruelty of the Russian aristocracy towards the common people.Your thesis, along with supporting evidence, must be discussed in each of the bodys paragraphs. As you strengthen your thesis statement from paragraph to paragraph, you must support every claim with evidence.Analysis of the thesisSince your thesis must get stronger with every claim and supporting evidence in each of the bodys paragraphs, the analysis must be present in the transition from one paragraph to the next. Its purpose is to strengthen your argument. In a basic sense, the analysis should demonstrate the logical connection and relationship of one paragraph to the next, until you reach your conclusion.A convincing conclusionRepeating or just summarizing the claims of your thesis statement is simply not enough. The manner in which you write the conclusion should be convincing, wrapping up what you have written in your introduction and prove the importance of your thesis statement and its claims. Your conclusion should be convincing and powerful enough to drive your reader to ask questions about the subject, like: How might present-day Russia be if there had been forces that put an end to the suffering of the common people before 1917? It must make the reader take interest in the subject and think about the greater effects of that particular event.Additional considerationsValidity of sourcesKnowing how to write a historical essay requires anevaluation of which sources to use. Help yourself to a generous number of primary sources. Primary sources are literature written by historians who participated in the subject that you are writing about. Primary sources will boost the success of your essay because you are writing from the perspective of people who were directly involved. Newspaper articles, records, books, and articles from government libraries all these are valid, reliable primary sources. Now, on to secondary sources. These are literature written by historians of a more recent time who were not directly involved but wrote according to the account of the primary sources. If you want to use secondary sources, then they must be scholarly. Do your research about the work of these authors. Make sure that your secondary sources are reputable, scholarly, recognized, and acclaimed by academic authorities.ChronologyThis is a historical essay and you should not ever confuse events. That is why a thorough study of the subject is advised before you begin writing. Writing The Soviet common people had been the subject of cruelty and injustice even before 1917 assures you a failing grade because the Soviet Union would only be established in 1922 by the Communists. Before the Soviet Union, there existed only the Russian Empire. Your thesis statement and analysis should fit perfect ly with the chronology of events.

Chapter 8 I expect youd best just forget about teaching altogether. Got me better friends than yall! They give me things and treat me like Im a man. Chapter 10 Hes got a need to show us where we stand in the scheme of things. Hes got a powerful need to do that. Chapter 11 Yall decide to hold court out here tonight? Chapter 12 Theres smoke coming from my forest yonder! What happened to T.J. in the night I did not understand, but I knew that it would not pass. And I cried for  those things  which had happened in the night and would not pass.

War of the Roses Essay Example For Students

War of the Roses Essay Tom Jones, by Henry Fielding is a novel that is identical to a soap opera. This book deals with everything from treachery to lust to deceit. He writes about a man and womans love for one another and that nothing can stand in their way. Class separates them and they will not let that stop them. Acquired a discretion and prudence very uncommon in one of his lively parts. This is a quote from Squire Allworthy to Tom. I believe that Fieldings purpose in writing this novel was purely to entertain. He also added stabs at the class society in medieval England. He wrote this novel to inspire hope in the people of his time. He wanted them to go for their dreams and never to give up hope. But most of all this was for entertainment. Humans like to see lives that are in more turmoil than their own. This is why we have soap operas on television today. He achieves this by using characters that seem to be imaginable. He puts these characters in amazing situations. When the reader believes that they have something pinned he puts in another twist that sends your senses spiraling. A specific instance in the novel is when the reader finds out that Mrs. Waters is actually Jenny Jones who is Toms mother. He sleeps with Mrs. Waters not knowing this. Fielding does not unveil this secret until the end of the novel. The major problem in the book is simple. There is a deceitful man named Blifil. He and Tom are going after the same woman, Sophia Western. Blifil is a kaniving person and besmirches the reputation of Tom. He makes up lies that hurt Toms chances with Sophia. Tom is also a bastard and Sophias father does not want her to marry a bastard. But he does want her to marry Blifil because he is in line to inherit a large estate. After arguments and many other incidences the truth is revealed. Everyone finds out that Tom is the good one and Blifil is the bad one. Tom also gets the girl. Henry Fielding was born on April 22, 1707, at Sharpham Park in Somersetshire to well-situated, upper-class parents. His mother was the grand daughter of Sir Henry gold, Baron of the Exchequer, and his father, Edmund, fought against the forces of Louis XIV under the Duke of Marlborough, who eventually rose to the rank of lieutenant general. Fielding was home school as was Tom Jones in the novel. A clerk-man from the University of Leyden educated him. And he began not as a novelist, but as a playwright. His first play was, Love in Several Masques. It was written and performed in 1728, he was still quite young. During the next ten years he wrote eight more long plays and over fifteen short plays which he called Farces. Arthur Murphy wrote the first biography of Fielding in 1762. For though it must be acknowledged that in the whole collection there are few plays likely to make any considerable figure on the stage hereafter, yet they are wor thy of being preserved, being the works of a genius, who in his wildest and most inaccurate productions, yet occasionally displays the talents of a master. In 1737 he began to study law at Middle Court. He was admitted to the bar in 1740. In the remaining fourteen years of his life he published four novels. He also wrote a BI-weekly newspaper called the Covent Garden Journal. In 1748 he was named Justice of the Peace for the Westminster district of London and in 1749 for all of Middlesex County. He was a proponent of social reform. He spent the last five years of his life in and out of courts and parliament. In 1753 he published Proposal for Making an Effectual Provision for the Poor. In April 1754 he was forced to resign his position as magistrate and move to Portugal. He later died in October of 1754. I believe that the specific theme of this novel to to never give up. That if a person has a dream and eventhough others tell them they can not reach it that

Why the H is Everything Censored Essay Example For Students

Why the H is Everything Censored Essay Have you ever sat down on a Wednesday night with a hot buttery bowl of popcorn and a cold soda to watch your favorite movie in its television debut? Watching closely with anticipation you prepare yourself for the great action and drama that captured your imagination when you originally saw it in the theater, only to find that every swear word and potentially offending scene has been dubbed over or removed. Dont you love it when badly mimicked mouth movements and the extraction of entire scenes have replaced all of the original thrill and suspense? Of courseeveryone does, dont they? Seriously thoughwhy does the government find it necessary to force television stations to edit and censor all of the programs that are aired? This editing and censoring may have been based on well-grounded ideas and morals, but it has come to the point where it is becoming ridiculous. The government interferes with public televisions broadcasts, but doesnt bother regulating magazine or book publications. W hy is this you ask? Good questionone that should be answered, but can never seem to be. The United States government claims that the filtering of public broadcasts is necessary to insure that programming remains educational and informational for the public. If television was only shown in schools and other educational facilities, censoring and editing could be completely justified. There really is no reason for programming in Americas schools to be anything but educational. This, however, is not the case. Television broadcasts are received nationwide, not only in schools, but in homes and businesses as well. When someone is relaxing in their private home, they should be able to watch whatever they please. There is absolutely no reason that someones personal tastes should be hindered or restricted by the government. This not only violates the first amendment rights of producers and directors, but also the first amendment rights of the viewers. The first amendment guarantees freedom o f speech to all free Americans. While this freedom of speech can be left open for interpretation, it definitely allows for the freedom of an individual to express themselves in the arts, and the freedom for an individual to watch, read or listen to these performances. Freedom of speech should definitely be limited if the actions or words of someone are physically or mentally abusive towards another. There is no logical argument that anyone can use to claim that swear words, violence and sex, when portrayed on television, is abusive towards anyone. These elements are most often not directed towards any specific person or group of people, and if they are, the offended parties have the option of changing the channel or turning off the TV. No one is forcing them to watch it. People watch television under their own free will, and just because some find the content offensive, does not justify depriving the rest of the population from viewing unedited programs. There could be some validity to the arguments of the Federal Government regarding censorship of the media if, and only if, they were even somewhat consistent with their laws and regulations. If theyre going to censor television, why dont they censor all of television? Does it seem right that in order to watch unedited programs and movies, you must pay an additional fee of thirty dollars per month to subscribe to the premium channels? That is basically saying that it is o.k. for anyone to view uncensored material as long as they can afford to pay a small fee. So now the situation shifts from no one being able to view unedited programs, to those who are willing to pay a nominal fee being able to view raw material. The government should never expect people to agree with the censorship of media, especially when they fail to even be consistent about it. .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 , .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 .postImageUrl , .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 , .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98:hover , .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98:visited , .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98:active { border:0!important; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98:active , .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98 .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u20db345ff4e7b5dad0e28ff1dd8faa98:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The life and Poetry of William Buttler Yeats Essay We will write a custom essay on Why the H is Everything Censored specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The main reason for censorship in television is to aid in sheltering the youth of America from possibly corruptive influences acquired from movies and programs. It is definitely in good intention for the government to try to protect the youth from violent and disrespectful behaviors, but the larger adult population should not be restricted in the same way. It should be up to the parents of these children to monitor what their children watch. It is time for the parents to stop blaming the artists for their free expressions, and to start blaming themselves for their lack of responsibility in raising their children. Parents in this day and age seem to be too busy to take time to sit down with their children to observe what theyre watching. It is time for parents to stop expecting the government to baby-sit their children. If they wont take the time to investigate the content of their childrens favorite shows, then they have no right to complain about lack of censorship in television. It is time for the majority of people to stop being punished for the lack of responsibility that some parents show in raising their children. It doesnt just stop with television though. Have you ever been flipping through the radio stations, and heard your favorite song? Of course you stop to listen to it, only to find that they have blurred out every possibly offensive and suggestive word. But why is it that some radio stations have analyzed and edited every word of every song, yet others play the original, unedited versions of songs? Once again, inconsistency in the system. It is very hard to justify censorship when it is questionable from one instance to the next. Musicians put those words and phrases in their songs for a reason so they can be heard. It just seems so unfair that unless you buy the album, you cant hear the original lyrics, the way they were intended to be heard. It seems like a recurring situation in that you can view or listen to uncensored material if you can pay for it. That is basically saying that its not about morals, its about money. That fact in itself is promoting bad ethics. Another problem th at may not be so obvious to U.S. citizens is that the government has such a chokehold on the media that they can control what flows in and out of it. That gives them an amazing ability to cover up their own dirty actions. The government regulates what we take in to try to keep us in good behavior, while they secretly cover up the innumerable amount of immoral and illegal activities of their own. Regulating what people can and cant see strikingly resembles a dictatorship. It seems like a Do as I say, not as I do scenario when it comes to the behavior of the government. Citizens should have the right to know about all the activities of their own government. After all, it was the citizens who put them in office. If people give their trust to individuals to run our country, then they should be aware of exactly how those individuals are running our country. It is ironic that the government censors the media to try to maintain a moral society, while at the same time; they use censorship to cover up and withhold all of their own immoral acts. Many of the actions of Americas government are far worse than anything they try to shelter the people from. Bibliography:

Romeo and Juliet Impulsive Behavior Essay Essays

Romeo and Juliet Impulsive Behavior Essay Essays Romeo and Juliet Impulsive Behavior Essay Paper Romeo and Juliet Impulsive Behavior Essay Paper A simple defect can be more fatal than decease itself. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. this becomes evident to the reader in many instances. Romeo is a really blemished character whose unprompted behaviour led to the decease of non merely himself but besides his darling Juliet. Romeo rapidly altering his deathless love he felt with Rosaline to Juliet without any compunction. subsequently when he kills Tybalt without thought of the effects. and once more when he learns of Juliet’s decease. Romeo’s headlong attitude plays a immense function in his life. and this shows merely before Romeo is about to come in the Capulet uninvited without believing much about it. At first. Romeo goes to the party to see his thought-to-be love Rosaline. but than rapidly changes his love from Rosaline to Juliet at his first sight of the beautiful Capulet. â€Å"Is she a Capulet? / O beloved history! My life is my foe’s debt† ( I. iv. 118- 119 ) . Romeo cognizing that Juliet is a Capulet. cognizing his life is in the custodies of his enemy. decides to set this aside because his love is excessively strong for her. This is a great illustration of Romeo’s impulsiveness. If Romeo was non speedy to take these actions. Romeo and Juliet would hold neer met. This would do both of their lives a batch easier. This is non the lone clip Romeo’s impulsiveness takes a large impact in his life. Later. Mercutio. Romeo’s friend and Tybalt. Juliet’s cousin have an statement and get down to contend one another. One thing leads to another and Tybalt ends up by chance knifing Mercutio with his blade. Romeo thinks this is his mistake seeing that he was seeking to keep Mercutio back at the clip. When Mercutio is stabbed by Tybalt he acts like he isn’t injury. that it is merely a little abrasion. while the truth is so he is greatly injured. Mercutio dies in forepart of Romeo and Romeo’s impulsiveness boots in instantly. Alive in triumph-and Mercutio slain! / Away to heaven. several lenience. / and fired-eyed rage be my behavior now. / Now. Tybalt. take the â€Å"villain† back once more / that late 1000 gravest me. for Mercutio’s psyche / is but a small manner above our caputs. / Staying for thrine to maintain him company. / Either 1000 or I. or both. must travel with him. † ( III. I. 84-92 ) Romeo stating this is a great illustration of his fatal defect. Alternatively of believing through what he wants to make about Tybalt killing Mercutio. he rapidly jumps to his battle and has a battle with Tybalt. Romeo ends up killing Tybalt. doing every affair worse. Romeo was really huffy that Tybalt killed his friend Mercutio. but if he took a minute to believe of his actions before making it he would hold been better off. Romeo’s impulsiveness does non merely do the love to Juliet. or the violent death of Tybalt. but Romeos impulsive character causes possible the biggest error of his life. After killing Tybalt. Romeo is banished from Verona. He is told that he is lucky non to be killed for his actions. Romeo does non believe that manner at all. as Romeo stats he would instead be dead than have to populate without his Sweet Juliet. Friar Lawrence and Juliet think of a program to acquire Romeo and Juliet back together. The dark before Juliet’s weeding to Paris. she must imbibe a potion that will do her appear dead. After she is laid to rest to rest in the family’s crypt. Romeo will come and salvage her so they can populate free together. The weeding unexpectedly gets moved a twenty-four hours earlier. Juliet drinks her potion the twenty-four hours before the weeding and goes on with the program. The job is Romeo hears merely of Juliet’s decease. the message of Juliet feigning to be dead did non acquire to him in clip. Romeo rapidly goes to Juliet’s grave to see her. but he finds Paris at that place every bit good. Romeo and Paris battle and Romeo kills him out of fury. â€Å"Wilt 1000 provoke me? Then have at thee. male child! † ( V. three. 78 ) Romeo so takes a expression at Juliet’s organic structure for the really last clip. Romeo drinks the potion to kill himself. but non before he kisses Juliet one last clip. Soon after. Juliet wakes up but merely to see Romeo’s dead organic structure lying following to her. She. like Romeo can non populate without him and knife herself with Romeo’s sticker. Romeo’s unprompted behaviour non merely took his life. but besides his true love Juliet.

Information Systems - Hard Rock Cafe Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Information Systems - Hard Rock Cafe - Case Study Example One known way of turning off customers lacks goods that they need every time they pass by your business. Hard Rock’s inventory relied on restaurant managers who had no one telling them when there was a shortage of something. The network connecting the cafà ©s was a mess itself. Ward describes the network as â€Å"hackerware†. Hard Rock’s financial system was never updated frequently. For this reason maybe, sometime back, a sack containing $100,000 went missing and sat in the New York City Hard Rock Cafà © for five days without being noticed by anyone. While the employees did not notice the sack, the corporate itself did not know such an amount of money was missing. The Ward’s group chose the Radius inventory management system as it was built on the Micro Strategy platform. The system was a product of Transatlantic Software and stores all the POS customer data, for instance, merchandise sales, customer demographic and the preference data that is now captured on the web. Since the sale of merchandise accounts for hundreds of millions of dollars every financial year, the restaurant needed to install a chain-wide merchandise system, which would help them avoid such embarrassments like the opening of Cleveland Hard Rock in summer that had no T-shirts for some weeks. Initially, Hard Rock had three sets of books that kept track of the revenues. The immense problem was that the totals were three very different numbers. In the late 1998, Hard Rock’s financial system required copies of statement in Lotus Notes, 2 members of staff to reproduce the numbers in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and key the numbers into a Lawson Software financial module. The CRM is essential in the operations of Hard Rock as it strengthens the relationship between the customer and the restaurant building an online community. This online community is crucial for a business

Journal - Essay Example Indeed, how he hated people and their foolishness. As the man entered his home, he thought about the burden of being a teacher, having to deal with ignorance and human incompetency as a regular daily obligation. He shuddered with contempt at the very idea. As he chewed these thoughts in his mind, he turned toward the television and clicked it to the local news. Glancing at the clock, he noticed that it was approaching 11am; almost time for lunch. For a moment, he watched as the excited woman dressed in a blue uniform smiled profusely and waved frantically at the camera, clearly excited to be a part of her newsworthy adventure. Jealous of her happiness, he clicked off the television. As the man reached into the mayonnaise jar to coat his favorite sandwich concoction, he formulated his last thought on Earth as his ceiling suddenly exploded onto his head, crushing the life out of him forever. In 30 minutes, as rescue workers began a frantic search for survivors, neighbors grimaced as a hunk of steel painted with one remark was resurrected from the debris. As if a prophetic vision of human justice, the word â€Å"Challenger† was quite

Case Treetop Forest Products Essay Example for Free

Case Treetop Forest Products Essay Identification (20%) Facts, assumptions and problem identification Building-grade lumber industry is competitive and product being sold is not differential; only differentiation is due to product packaging and presentation. Product packaging is biggest factor when buyers are making a purchasing decision between buying from Treetop or competitors. Over the last 2 years, Treetop has declined in ratings for package of lumber products as a result lost customers to competitors . Treetop has six departments: boom, sawmill, planer, packaging, shipping, and maintenance. All other departments have a supervisor; however, packaging department does not have one designated supervisor. Possible solution is to convert one of the workers to supervisor, or dedicate a supervisor 100% of the time to packaging To solve the issue supervisor from sawmill and planer deparments cover the shifts. Due to distance between sawmill and planing divisions, the supervisors are unable given full attention to the operations of the packaging division. (assumption) Distance cause the supervisor to visit the departments not as often as they should. Productivity in 3 divisions remained constant, Sawmill and planing division productivity increased; however, productivity decreased in packaging department and caused the following: Stockpile up Risk of damaged stock increased the inventory cost Cost Competitiveness suffered due to management placing additional employees from other divisions to solve the backlog issue faced by packaging department. Packaging department run two shifts morning and afternoon Productivity level of afternoon shifts is less than morning shift employees Reason behind the decreased in productivity level in the department is due to following: Employees takes extended lunch and coffee breaks Leave few min early, specially afternoon shift Reallocation of temporary employees from different productive departments also follow the same practise after being in the packaging department for few days. Based on the case facts, organizational effectiveness and productivity is being effected by the in place practises of Packaging  Department. Following two major problems should be resolved to overcome the issues faced by Treetop: Packaging departments employees are effecting the working habits of other department employees. Department wide meeting communicating the company values, performance issues of packaging department, statististics proving decline in packaging, and initiatives to stop extended lunches, coffee breaks, leaving few minutes early especially in afternoon shift Produce daily backlog reports showing increase in backlog and spoilage statistics. Use negative consequences (firing), within union contract. and positive rewards based on production and quality targets being met. Methods and implementation of rewards can be determined by using Nominal Group Technique (variation of brain storming)- 1)silently and independently document their ideas, 2)collectively describe ideas to other team members without critique, and 3)silently ad independently evaluate the ideas presented Packaging division does not have a supervisor to oversee the operation on daily bases. This needs to change immediately. If costs can’t be justified, perhaps  ½ time position added, that also is in production the other half , or Bal Resolving the issues The packaging department is mostly at fault for majority of the Treetop Forest Productions Ltd recent decline of organisational success, not only are the packaging employees at fault, but also management for not monitoring the situation more effectively. It’s vital for Treetop Forest Products to improve and maintain their competitive edge within the building grade timber industry to ensure future success of the organisation. If solutions are not implemented immediately, the success of the organisation will continue to decline, placing Treetop Forest Productions Ltd in an unfavourable position where recovery may be implausible. Tackling the major issues illustrated within the packaging department will commence a strong positive path towards the future success of the organisation, placing them in a competitive position once again. There are possible solutions that can assist with effectively and efficiently dealing with this issue. Firstly, supervision and leadership needs a major  improvement within the packaging sector. As illustrated within all other fully supervised departments, work is completed efficiently and to a high quality standard. By providing packaging employees with the same supervision and leadership, near guarantees a positive change within the packaging department. Employing a leader with a with a transformational approach to leadership concerned with emotions, values, ethics, standards and long term goals will help to improve the work ethic within the packaging department. A supervisor with transformational leadership involves an exceptional form of influence that moves followers to accomplish more that what is usually expected of them. Furthermore, by introducing a new leader, costs will decrease due to supervised workers and the decrease of overtime; it can be implemented quickly, improv e productivity and increase the equity of work. As also explained within the issues of the packaging department, there is a lack of employee motivation. This is demonstrated through the low quality of work produced, longer breaks and early finishing times. Its important for managers to understand that each and every individual employee will have a set of drives, needs, decisions and behaviours to be motivated. By following the below diagram, Treetop Forest Products managers can use this to understand different emotional responses and resulting needs in the same situation. promote group cohesiveness and a pleasant working environment. In the short term, upper management could host a meeting or assembly between all departments to make them feel interrelated and important to the company. This could be a great motivation for the employees. In the long term, group evaluations could be necessary to measure the group’s performance and to see if the actions taken are resolving the problems. supervisor of the department. Learned Needs Theory: The Learned Needs Theory has three â€Å"learned needs† that can be defined as the â€Å"Need for Achievement†, â€Å"Need for Power†, and the â€Å"Need for Affiliation†. A need is amplified or suppressed through self-concept, social norms, and past  experiences (Internet Center for Management and Business Administration, Inc., 2002), although needs can also be learned through training whether it be strengthening or weakening the need. The members of the packaging department could have been more aware of their needs whether it is affiliation, power, or achievement and if they were more aware of what was there, there could have been more motivation on the part of the members to excel. Also, with the appointment of an actual supervisor, instead of taking them from other departments, it could have ensured that these needs be amplified through some forms of friendly competition or rewards. The â€Å"Need for Power† is stated as the need to make an impact on others, influence others, change people or events, and make a difference in life. If this need was taught to the members of the packaging department by the supervisors of the other departments, there could be a chance someone internally would strive so much for the need of power that he or she would emerge as the leader in a department with a declining productivity level. Having the ability to control others is a very powerful characteristic which everyone strives for internally, so if this need was brought forward by executives there would be an increase in competition and drive between the members to claim that position of hierarchy in the department. The â€Å"Need for Achievement† is the need and desire for excellence, competition, challenging goals, and overcoming difficulties. With the simple action as a reward put forth throughout the company internally that the employees of each section could enjoy, it could ignite an employee’s need for achievement and desire for excellence which in turn could ignite the competition in every employee to achieve success like his or her fellow employee has. People strive for recognition and success and if this need was amplified in the employees who have made it clear that they want to enjoy the benefits that come from a high productivity level, and brought out of those who believe that they don’t need success, Treetop Forest Products could internally enjoy success of their own making their business profit at its maximum rate. The â€Å"Need for Affiliation† is defined as the need for individuals maintain close, intimate relationships, or approval of other people. If Treetop Forest Products could bring out this need in the packaging department by showing them how the other departments in the company get along which in turn brings the productivity level up within the  department. Although, the employees of the packaging do well of getting along with each other by performing bad habits such as leaving early or extending their breaks, if that could be  transformed through the training of good habits such as exceeding expected productivity levels and working hard, the affiliation that is present now could be that much stronger and emphasized in the department. Also, in addition to affiliation within the department, there is also the possibility with the rise of productivity level and affiliation within the The team has strong cohesion, but needs to be turned around. (employees transferred are confor ming to the team norms of lack of punctuality)† Norms are the informal rules and shared expectations that groups establish to regulate the bahavour of their members.† Padge 225 chapter 8 Canadian Org Behaviour . It has to be set as a rethink to the department and communicating the new norms and aligning the norms with the company goals and objectives is critical. Through these simple needs that can be taught or learned, Treetop Forest Products could experience not only success from their five already successful departments but from the packaging department as well. If amplified the packaging department would benefit from the affiliation they would gain from the other departments, the power that employees could possibly gain with the increase of productivity via promotions or recognition, and the rewards that the employees of the packaging could gain through increased productivity levels. If Treetop Forest Products were to implicate these two simple theories there is a possibility that the packaging department would no longer be a harmful unit but instead an asset that Treetop can rely on. Through the Situational Leadership Theory, Treetop has the opportunity to find a leader that can adapt to the group and individuals and convert the now declining productivity level of the packaging department to an increasing level of productivity like the f ive other departments in the company. With the Learned Needs Theory, Treetop has the ability to install the needs for achievement, power, and affiliation to the packaging department to encourage friendly competition between the employees while still steadily increasing the productivity levels of the  department. Conclusion: Treetop Forest Products and Westboard Co have been suffering the consequences of the lackluster performance from their packaging department since there is no authority figure to keep the employees on task and working hard to produce sellable products for Westboard. With the packaging department not having their own supervisor, Treetop has appointed the supervisors of the sawmill and planing department as the supervisors of the packaging department during their shifts. With the packaging department being in a different location then the sawmill and planing department, it has caused the supervisors to make the packaging department an afterthought and with the productivity levels of the packaging department decreasing it has shown. After evaluating the case of Treetop Forest Product and the issues with their packaging department, they have been using the Contingency Theory which states that there is no one best way of leading and that a leadership style that is effective in some situations may not be successful in others and that while a leader may be very effective at one place and point in time may become unsuccessful either when transplanted to another situation or when factors around t hem change. This was clear in the case of Treetop Forest Product’s case because  although the leaders were very effective with their own departments, increasing the productivity levels of their respective departments, when transferred over to the packaging department their effectiveness did not follow. Each leader has their own key characteristics that play a major part in how they lead, whether it is their personality, drive, emotional intelligence, self-concept, etc. so what may be high and effective in one leader and his or her department may not be high and effective in a different department’s leader. Since the sawmill and planing departments were so successful when implanted into a failing department, the situation as well as the effectiveness of the leader changed. Instead of the Contingency Theory, there were others that if Treetop were to implement it could have made the productivity level of the packaging department go up while creating a better atmosphere within the company. If Treetop were to take the leader who was most able to conform his or her leadership style to that of the packaging department instead of just taking the top two  departments supervisors without considering the important variables such as distance and drive, Treetop could have improved the situation within the packaging department. With these simple changes to the company, Treetop could have quite easily changed the atmosphere and effectiveness of the packaging department to better the profits and trust gained from Westboard. If Treetop were to dedicate an individual supervisor based on performance and authoritative qualities within the department instead of having an external employee take on the responsibility of turning the packaging department around, the chances of increasing the productivity level of the packaging department would increase which would not only benefit the department but Treetop Forest Products and Westboard Co. respectively.

The Opening Chapter of Enduring Love by Ian McEwan Essay -- Enduring L

The Opening Chapter of Enduring Love by Ian McEwan A dictionary defines the word addictive as being: wholly devoted to something, a slave to another and in a state of wanting more. Ian McEwan claimed that he wanted to write an opening chapter that had the same effect as a highly addictive drug. In my opinion he has achieved in doing this. At the end of chapter one the reader is left needing more information about the characters introduced and what tragedy actually occurred. McEwan took the definition, addictive, and wrote the opening chapter, never forgetting what his objective was. The opening chapter has to be effective in order to keep the reader interested and to keep them reading. The style of the writer and novel also need to be established and tailored to suit the tastes of anyone that decides to read this novel. McEwan uses many factors that all contribute towards the effectiveness of the opening chapter. A lot of suspense and tension is used right from the start of the novel, in the first line, "The beginning is simple to mark," which makes you question, the beginning of what exactly? This is a short sentence that is used which draws you in and leaves you wanting to know more. McEwan also creates a lot of tension, "partly protected from a strong, gusty wind," which describes the wind as being an unpredictable, natural force which together conveys a sense of urgency. The narrator also starts to withhold vital information from the reader to create anxiety from within. "The encounter that would unhinge us was minutes away," the narrator is building up the tension that leads to this huge disaster, but doesn’t just say what is install for him and the other characters. He also hints that the disaster is life changing, "This was the last time that I understood anything clearly at all." The narrator then goes on to describe the atmosphere and events just before the disaster reached them, "I heard what was coming two seconds before it reached us." Which is an innuendo, which McEwan uses a lot throughout this first chapter. The narrator then goes on to describe the wind that day using verbs to describe the strength of it, "transversing" and "hurtling," but before the narrator goes any further he says "Let me freeze the frame," which is media terminology, which too is used quite a lot through this opening chapter. McEwan uses this techniq... ...t it is ruthless and is used to increase the sense of danger, "Met Office figures. . . . . . it was said of 70 miles per hour." The wind threatens the characters, leaving the reader knowing that disaster is just around the corner. The idea of a catastrophe is always present throughout the opening chapter. It is used to create excitement in the reader and to fuel the craving of needing more information, "At the inquest" at this point, the reader is left to deal with the fact that, obviously someone died, but it is not yet revealed who - the boy in the basket or Logan. Also, the fact that what happened is life changing, "It was time when other outcomes were still possible." The narrator even says they "Were running towards a catastrophe." All the points I have considered, all contribute towards creating a stimulating and addictive opening chapter. The main stimulant being, the need for more information. Where the narrator deliberately gives you a hint as to what may happen next, he then takes it away from you, making you want the information more - therefor he has created an addiction. The cause of it, being the first chapter, the only way to cure it, is to finish the novel!

Charles Dickens and the Victorian Era Essay

The writer Charles Dickens created some of the most memorable fictional stories and is generally regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian period. He managed to represent features that were characteristic of this period. A clear example of this is ‘The Signalman† which was written by the author in 1865 and was based on a signalman who worked with the steam trains. There are two aspects of this work that portray the Victorian period. One distinctive aspect is the use of the supernatural device and the other is the use of the prejudices which were typical from this time. One important aspect in the story that gives a picture of the Victorianism is the use of the supernatural device. As the Victorian era progressed, the supernatural interest began to grow; consequently the Gothic genre began to gain in popularity. During this period literature reflected this interest through the prevalence of ghosts, mysterious apparitions, and unexplainable sounds in the literary w orks. (Craig, 2012) Dickens attempts to capture the superstitious beliefs that predominated during the Victorian period, using the supernatural theme in the story. It is shown through the signalman who is convinced that he is haunted or that there is a â€Å"ghost†. Meanwhile the narrator believes that these premonitions are merely coincidences, and that there is not any spectre but the wind. To sum up, Dickens tries to explore altered states of mind by which he was fascinated in the last part of his life and which will lead to the development of the imminent modern psychology afterward. Another important aspect is the use of the â€Å"prejudices† in order to depict an important quality of the Victorian world. The story illustrates how the Victorian society was judged by class. In this case, the narrator is surprised that the signalman is an educated man that has a low rank job which would be suitable for a lower classed person. It is shown when the narrator affirms ‘[†¦]he had been well educated, and (I hoped I might say without offence) perhaps educated above that station†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢.(Dickens,1907, p.14 ). By analyzing this extract it can be inferred that Victorian society had their social classes clearly defined and  that each class had its own standards. Thus, an educated person was expected to belong to middle or upper class consequently that person was supposed to have a job appropriate to that class. All in all, indirectly, it could be said that the author is concerned about the prejudices and standards assumed to each social class. Nothing can detract from the fact that Charles Dickens was an outstanding writer who drew the attention of the reading public exploring social themes that took place during those times. Indirectly, the author illustrated the era he lived in, describing aspects such as the beliefs as well as the attitudes society had during the Victorian Era. On balance, there is not a shadow of doubt that Dickens challenges and is concerned on the popular Victorian beliefs that some people were more prone to vice than others. REFERENCES Craig, S. (2012). Patterns begin to evolve and become a rule of basic assumption; whether it is a new idea, one recently discovered or under development by a certain group as they learn to cope with internal integration and external adaptation problems. Cultural characteristics are hard to define because culture is multi-dimensional with integrated components that intertwine at different levels and ever-changing which takes time to establish and therefore time to change it also. Functions of a society need to be fulfilled with a certain amount of satisfaction or culture can impede the efficiency of that organization.
